Description
St. Mary's Church has been declared to be of Cultural Interest on December 7, 1983.
Its framework is gothic. However, at the end of the XVIth century, there is an evolution to the classicist-style coming from "El Escorial" (the Monastery and palace north of Madrid built by Philip II). Therefore, the upper part and the two first tower's sections are in Gothic-style and the rest is in the style from El Escorial. Its alterations went on until the XVIIIth century.
It is the biggest church in Tordesillas, built in stone work and brick work. The church is made up of a single nave divided into four parts. It is on arches adhering to a vault and tuscan quadrangular section columns that are covered with barrel vaults in a half-moon shape small vaults that is opened on the main vault to light it up and decorated with classicist plasterwork. It has three porches. The square base tower represents the lookout point in Tordesillas due to its great height.
